On Amorgos, a charming Cycladic island, the visitor can discover secluded and remote beaches like Mouros, Plakes, Kambi, Levrossos, Psili Ammos, Mikri and Megali Vlychada and Agii Saranda which are considered to be among the best beaches on the island. Of course, there are also other popular and busy beaches like Katapola or Aegiali, located next to the two ports of Amorgos. The island’s highlight  is Agia Anna beach, below the impressive 1000 year old Byzantine monastery of Chozoviotissa, where the famous film “Big Blue” was shot.

Choosing the best beaches in Amorgos is not an easy task, as the island boasts some of the most beautiful and scenic beaches in the Cyclades. AEGIALI MAIN BEACH

Τhis is the biggest beach on the island, with soft sand and clear waters, starting from the small village – port of Aegiali, following the shape of an arch. Ideal for anyone, including families with children.  A swim can be accompanied by coffee, snacks or food, as there are cafeterias and taverns along the beach.

LEVROSSOS

One of the nicest sandy beaches of Amorgos, in Aegiali area, just a 10 minute walk below Aegialis Hotel & Spa, surrounded by lush green gardens. It is accessible by a 20 minute walk from Aegiali village, through a path starting from the end of Aegiali beach, or by regular boat crossings from the port, during the summer season.

PSILI AMMOS

Just after Levrossos, Psili Ammos is a small beach that can be accessed on foot, following the path after Levrossos or Aegiali and by boat from the port. It is quiet, with coarse sand and pebbles and crystal waters, perfect for snorkelling, while some trees on the upper part of the beach provide shade to visitors.

CHOCHLAKAS

Just after Psili Ammos beach, this quiet cove is 2 kilometers away from Aegialis Hotel & Spa and can be reached on foot through the path, after Psili Ammos. Partly sandy with pebbles, this small beach is totally preserved and wild. Perfect for those who enjoy peaceful environment and like nudism.

AGIOS PAVLOS – NIKOURIA BEACH

Quite impressive with its tip pointing nearly 100 meters into the sea, Agios Pavlos beach, with sand and pebbles, is a nice place to relax. Right across lays the island of Nikouria with 2 beautiful sandy beaches, accessible by boat, crossing regularly during summer season.

The area around Agios Pavlos and Nikouria is well known for its good fishing, snorkelling and diving.

MIKRI VLYHADA

Mikri Vlychada is a beautiful beach below the village of Tholaria, with sand and pebbles and crystal waters. It is accessible from Tholaria village through a steep path, approximately 30 minute walk, or by private boat; a nice place for those who seek tranquillity and dramatic mountain scenery.

AGIA ANNA

Below Chozoviotissa Monastery, Agia Anna is considered one of the most beautiful beaches of Amorgos. It is a small rocky beach with spectacular beauty and clear transparent waters. This beach is accessible by car and there is a cantine for refreshments and snacks. The small picturesque chapel of Agia Anna above the beach is the perfect venue for romantic weddings.

Walking through rocky platforms and shallow waters for 10 minutes from Agia Anna, one can arrive at Kampi, a nudist beach with views of the Viocastro islet right off the coast.

PARADISIA

This beach is located below the beautiful church of Agia Paraskevi in Kolofana, where the big festival of the 26th of July takes place. It is a small sandy beach where the remains of an early-Christian basilica have been splashed by the waves for centuries.

MOUROS

With its deep blue hue and very clean waters, Mouros is one of the most popular beaches on the southern part of Amorgos, just before Vroutsi village. Partly rocky with black sand, Mouros has two underwater caves on the right hand side as you walk down to the beach, which can be reached by swimming and/or snorkelling. It is accessible by car and there is a restaurant above the beach.

KALOTARITISSA

Kalotaritissa is a fairly long sandy beach located at the southwestern tip of Amorgos, after Kolofana village, creating a natural sheltered bay with numerous fishing boats. It is accessible by car, continuing the road after the bay where the shipwreck of “Olympia” lies. There is a beach cafe, and some sunbeds and umbrellas are available.

Across from Kalotaritissa, the small island of Gramvoussa features a beautiful sandy beach, which is accessible on a regular basis every day by small boats.

AGIOS PANTELEIMON
This beach is located across Katapola port, continuing the route after Xilokeratidi area, and it is known for its peace and tranquility. Agios Panteleimon takes its name from the small church located in close vicinity to the beach. It is a perfect beach for private swimming, accessible on foot (30 minutes from Katapola), or by regular boat crossing from the port during summer season.

KATAPOLA BEACH

Located in the middle of Amorgos Island, the area is famous for its natural harbour, one of the finest in the Aegean sea. Ever since antiquity, travellers would seek shelter there and today numerous sailing boats anchor for rest and supplies. The sandy beach of Katapola offers to the sunbathing visitors perfect shade, a welcoming relief from the blazing sun during the peak of summer.
